Circular project COCON Sint-Niklaas

Why throw it away if you can still use it

Project Cocon in Sint-Niklaas is an innovative transformation of a former Nobels-Peelman industrial site into a social and circular hub. The project focuses on the circular economy by making smart use of materials, both in construction and in the use of the building. The renovation retains as much of the existing structure as possible and uses second-hand building materials, such as original steel interior windows and floors. In addition, materials from other buildings have been reused, such as relocatable partitions and lighting.

Cocon provides a vibrant meeting place for circular and social entrepreneurs, where ideas are exchanged and new collaborations emerge. From 2025, the project will be further developed into a knowledge centre for circular economy, aiming to accelerate the circular transition and create local jobs. The network of companies, local authorities, experts and knowledge institutions, plays a crucial role in the success of this initiative.

BEDDELEEM was chosen as a partner for the interior partitions. Our circular modular partitions were the perfect solution to the request to work with as much recycled material as possible.

Thanks to our BEDDELEEM CIRCULAIR project, we were able to reuse JB partitions that already had a life behind them here.

Cocon was realised in cooperation with main contractor Bouwbedrijf Floré, the City of Sint-Niklaas, architects Studio Tuin en Wereld and MikeViktorVIktor architects from Antwerp.

With circular construction, we are taking another step towards more sustainable and efficient building for the future.
